Traditional Camargue gardian waistcoat

The traditional Camargue waistcoat!

The trimmed gardian waistcoat is an emblematic piece of the gardian outfit. The elegant black bias trims on the garment perfectly match the black piping found on traditional gardian pants. In keeping with tradition, all the waistcoat’s pockets are trimmed.

The traditional Camargue waistcoat

Vincent et Mireille Camargue waistcoats, available for men, women, and children, reflect the essence of Camargue tradition while adapting to every body shape.

Each waistcoat is designed to fit perfectly to the wearer’s silhouette: the women’s models feature shaping darts and bust seams for a fitted feminine cut, while the men’s and children’s waistcoats include an adjustable back strap for a tailored fit.

All our gardian waistcoats feature refined details, such as trimmed pockets (like our gardian jackets), satin linings, and buttons engraved with the Vincent et Mireille logo. By wearing these authentic Camargue waistcoats, gardians of all ages proudly honor and preserve Camargue’s clothing heritage.

When to wear the traditional gardian waistcoat?

Even if it is not mandatory, the 2008 gardian dress code charter recognizes the traditional waistcoat for many situations. Camargue riders can wear these moleskin waistcoats for common occasions, over a colorful shirt of the Indian style.

This perfectly complements the traditional gardian outfit, while showcasing the richness of Provençal tradition.

Gardians can also wear this garment during official ceremonies (for example at weddings), parades, or during the Abrivado. Sometimes, this piece can also be worn under the traditional palatine velvet jacket.
