Traditional Camargue culotte skirts
As an alternative to the Arles costume, the gardian dress code recommends that horsewomen wear the traditional moleskin culotte skirt. Perfectly suited to side-saddle riding, the culotte skirt is an emblematic garment of gardian and Camargue culture.

When to wear the traditional gardian culotte skirt?
The gardian culotte skirt, an essential element of the traditional Camargue horsewomen’s outfit, is worn on various occasions in accordance with the charter established by the Confrérie des Gardians of Saint Georges and the Nacioun Gardiano.
For side-saddle riding, the Arles costume is traditionally recommended, but in its absence, the culotte skirt becomes mandatory for horsewomen. The culotte skirt is particularly appropriate for official ceremonies, weddings, and funerals, where it is paired with specific elements of the gardian outfit, such as the Camargue shirt or the gardian waistcoat.
For less formal events, such as gardian games, abrivados, and bandidos, the culotte skirt remains a preferred option, but women can also wear the traditional gardian moleskin pants. The culotte skirt thus embodies a symbol of respect and elegance for horsewomen during significant moments of gardian culture.
